Walk In Ministry History

Itasca Walk In Ministry (IWIM) was formed in 2004 in order to help people in need beyond the food help available from the Itasca Food Pantry. Five churches formed the original covenant group and pledged to furnish money as well as volunteers to staff the ministry.

IWIM serves residents of Itasca, persons who are members of Itasca Churches, persons who have children in the Itasca school system and/or in the 2 religious schools and persons who work in Itasca. We also serve people passing through on a 1-time basis who are neither residents nor fall under the other guidelines.

The mission includes making limited help for prescriptions, utility payments, rent or mortgage payments, car repairs and travel (gas, bus, train) vouchers for travel to work. We also seek to encourage the requestors to obtain help from other agencies and also obtain counseling. We provide help in locating other agencies.

With the current economic conditions, our clients need shelter, utilities and a way to get to work. Our assistance in the areas listed above has increased significantly in the past 2 years. Specific needs are very individual, and as such, are treated individually and personally with each client.
