September 18, 2019 Dear Residents:

Tonight, the Itasca Plan Commission had to postpone tonight’s hearing because of capacity.

Despite making extensive plans to hold the meeting in the largest public space in Itasca, using both the gym and cafeteria, the crowd exceeded the Fire District’s maximum capacity of 1,350. At 7 p.m., the District estimated 200-300 more people were waiting to get in. In total, the number of people who showed up amounts to 16 percent of Itasca’s population—a number Itasca has certainly never experienced until tonight.

According to public hearing procedures, if there are people who want to attend a hearing but cannot gain entrance, the hearing has to be postponed.

The Village staff is currently considering options and locations to hold the next scheduled public hearing set for Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 7 p.m.

On behalf of the entire Village staff, Fire District and Police Department, I would like to thank everyone for coming out, and for cooperating with the authorities.

I am committed to working with the Village staff and the Plan Commission to ensure we identify a location where everyone who is interested can attend.

Thank you for your patience.

Mayor Jeff Pruyn

In a continuing effort to gain as much information about Haymarket as possible, Mayor Pruyn and Administrator Ergo went to the Haymarket facility at 932 W. Washington in Chicago on Friday, August 23 to meet with Dr. Lustig and Sr. Executive Vice President Karen Kissel.
The number one thing we wanted to convey to the Haymarket Team was how concerned we were about our Village’s resources, and the potential strain our Village would encounter. Dr. Lustig shared that they understood our position because their board recently sold a piece of Haymarket’s property to make up for three years of State funding they did not receive.
We discussed our questions that have largely gone unanswered, and they indicated they were working on providing us written answers. We also toured the facility.
We welcome continued dialogue with Haymarket and will pass along any information when we get it.

August 8, 2019 - Update from Mayor Pruyn
"It is important to keep you updated pertaining to the information we’ve received regarding Haymarket Center. My number one goal in this process is to provide as much information to our residents as possible. Honestly, this process has been very frustrating for me because of the lack of information we have.
In July, Haymarket Center submitted an application to the Village of Itasca, but it did not give us the wholistic narrative of how Haymarket operates and its total potential effect on Itasca. For that reason, on July 22nd, I sent a letter to Haymarket Center’s law firm presenting a list of more than 30 questions that have been gathered from the community (attached here). The Village staff and I are trying everything we can to gain more information about the proposed Haymarket Center.
On August 2, 2019, we received, from Haymarket’s legal team, supplemental information that was required for the application process. Haymarket also sent us the attached Haymarket DuPage information sheet, but it leaves the majority of our Village’s questions unanswered.
We will continue to keep you updated throughout this process."
