Village Response To COVID-19
Protecting the health and safety of the people, visitors, and businesses in Itasca is our first priority. As we move through these uncertain times, the Village has updated its policies to follow state and federal guidance, taking proactive measures to help limit the spread of the Coronavirus.
The impact on daily life is a challenge everyone faces. Together, everyone can help protect neighbors and limit the destructive impact of this global pandemic.

In response to the governor’s disaster proclamation on March 9, many communities and counties across Illinois issued their own emergency declarations.
On March 17, the Village Board approved Ordinance 1936-20 granting the Mayor temporary executive powers to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic. In line with the powers granted to him, Mayor Pruyn declared a State of Emergency (PDF) on March 18. Understanding that the pandemic has caused unprecedented fiscal harm to residents and businesses, Mayor Pruyn issued several executive orders aimed at alleviating financial pressures and code regulations on residents and businesses alike. Each of the below orders are reviewed and ratified by Resolution by the Board of Trustees, who are working diligently on maintaining the health and vitality of our community.

The State guidelines for the Open Meetings Act has been modified to all participants of the above meetings to join via teleconference or video conference. Village staff is being urged to only forward essential business for consideration on upcoming agendas. Meetings will be cancelled if there is no essential business to discuss.
At this time, the Village is utilizing Zoom to host some of its regularly scheduled meetings that cannot take place in-person. Please review the specific agenda of the meeting you wish to attend, for instructions on how to access the meeting and to submit public comments.
The health and safety of residents and employees continues to be a priority of the Village’s, which is why the Village has implemented several new safety protocols. To reduce the spread of COVID, the Village now requires all visitors to:
- Wear face coverings over their mouth and nose when entering any Village facility
- Utilize hand sanitizer stationed inside the main entrance
- Practice social distancing by maintaining at least 6 feet of physical separation from others. Only one visitor at a time will be allowed at a Village counter. Those waiting their turn must remain at the next social distancing floor maker.
You will also notice that the lobby in Village Hall has been reconfigured to accommodate physical distancing, and glass partitions have been installed at counters where staff and the public interact. Extra hand sanitizer stations and cloth face coverings or masks are available in the lobby area.
Did you know there are several business transactions that can be done online that do not require person-to-person contact?
- Pay a Parking Ticket: You will need the Ticket Number, Due Date, Date Ticket was Issued, and the name of person ticketed.
- Pay for Reserved Parking Permit: You will need the Permit Number and the Account Holder’s Name
- Pay a Water Bill: You will need the account number listed on your bill, service address, and the account holder’s name.
- Request a Crash Report
- Request Overnight Parking
- Submit a Building Permit: You may email Community Development building permit applications and contractor registrations. Payments will need to be made through a separate action. Please note due to size restrictions, large format plans may need to be dropped off at Village Hall.
- Submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request
Payments are also accepted through the mail; the Village’s payment drop box located in the Village Hall parking lot or in-person.
Event & Gathering Guidelines
After reviewing the Restore Illinois Plan released by Governor Pritzker on May 5, 2020, it is clear that our region will not be permitted to hold gatherings of more than 50 people for several more weeks, if not several months. Restore Illinois does not permit community gatherings until Phase 5. Review the Restore Illinois Plan.

- The Scottish Festival and Highland Games (hosted by Chicago Scots)
- Itasca Summer Concert Series (in partnership with Itasca Park District)
- 4th of July Celebration (in partnership with Hamilton Lakes Business Park)
- Itascafest (hosted by Itasca Lions)
- Itasca Community Garage Sale (hosted by the Itasca Park District)
- Fishing with the Cops (in partnership with Itasca Police Department)
- Ice Cream in the Park (In partnership with Itasca Fire District, Police Department and Park District)
- National Night Out, which is traditionally held in August, has been rescheduled nationally to October 6, 2020

The health and safety of our residents is our first priority. The Village will continue to evaluate guidance published by the State of Illinois and Du Page County Health Department with the hope of resuming community events as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Working with our community partners, the Village is exploring new ways to keep Itasca connected. Stay tuned for opportunities to participate in socially distanced celebrations and events, which will be posted on the Village’s website throughout the summer.
